AAP Accuses BJP Government of Targeting Public Welfare Facilities in Delhi

This action comes as part of the ongoing and intensified crackdown against drug suppliers, peddlers, and street-level narcotic distributors active in North Delhi. The operation highlights the persistent and coordinated efforts of the police to identify and dismantle drug networks that continue to prey on vulnerable sections of society.

How the Operation Began: Intelligence Inputs Lead to Action

The Anti-Narcotics Cell/North District had been continuously gathering intelligence for several weeks on the movement and activities of suspected drug suppliers. The team was actively monitoring the supply corridors and distribution points used by small and mid-level drug peddlers in localities such as Sadar Bazar, Motia Khan, and adjoining areas.

Acting on a reliable secret tip-off received by the cell, the police learned that certain individuals were operating from a house in the congested lanes of Motia Khan, and were engaged in the sale and supply of heroin in the area.

Given the sensitivity and urgency of the information, a dedicated police team was immediately formed.

Dedicated Team Formed for the Operation

The anti-narcotics team was constituted under the leadership of ASI Shridhar, with W/ASI Kamla Devi, HC Saurav, and Ct Deepanshu as team members. The team worked under the close supervision of SI Jagbir Khatri, In-charge of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, and under the overall guidance of Ms. Vidushi Kaushik, ACP/Operations Cell, North District.

The officials meticulously planned the raid, chalking out each step with precision to prevent the suspects from escaping or destroying evidence.

The Raid at Motia Khan: Two Arrested

On 06 November 2025, acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Anti-Narcotics Cell conducted a raid at a house in Motia Khan, Sadar Bazar. During the raid, the police nabbed two suspects:

  • Harsh @ Jatin (23 years)
  • Riya (20 years)

Both were apprehended from their residence and were immediately searched. Their house was thoroughly inspected as part of the operation. During the search, the team recovered:

  • 149.07 grams of heroin
  • ₹3,91,710 cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales

The seized heroin was packed in small quantities, suggesting it was ready for distribution among local peddlers and drug users.

Following the recovery, a case was registered under FIR No. 1332/25, dated 06.11.2025, under Section 21 of NDPS Act at Police Station Sadar Bazar. The investigation was subsequently taken up by the Anti-Narcotics Cell/North District.

1. The Kingpin Was the Mother of Harsh

The accused disclosed that they were working on the instructions of Smt. Poonam Bai, the mother of Harsh @ Jatin.
She was identified as the main supplier of heroin to local peddlers.

Poonam Bai reportedly procured heroin from higher-level suppliers and distributed it using her family members — including Harsh and his sister-in-law, Riya — to avoid direct detection.

2. A Family Driven by Illegal Profit

Both Harsh and Riya revealed that the family ran the illegal drug cartel to make quick money. The cash recovered during the raid was claimed to be earnings from their narcotics trade.

Police found that Harsh was not new to crime. His criminal profile includes:

  • 08 previous involvements in cases of
    • Snatching
    • Theft
    • Arms Act violations
  • He is a habitual offender, well-known in the Sadar Bazar police records.
  • He has been committing crimes in the area for over five years.

His drug addiction was also one of the reasons he got deeply involved in drug distribution, as selling narcotics helped him sustain his own addiction and lifestyle.

4. Riya’s Involvement

20-year-old Riya, married for three years to Sahil (the elder brother of Harsh), also admitted her involvement.
She confessed that she had been helping the drug cartel under the instructions of her mother-in-law, Poonam Bai.

Search for Poonam Bai Underway

Following the interrogation, the police conducted multiple raids at various potential hideouts of Poonam Bai, but she remains absconding.

The police strongly believe that she is the mastermind behind the entire drug network and are intensifying efforts to track her down. More raids are expected in the coming days.

Police Efforts and Continuing Investigation

The raid marks a significant achievement for the Anti-Narcotics Cell, as such drug networks often operate silently within thickly populated colonies. The coordinated efforts of the officers ensured that the operation was clean, swift, and successful.

The police are now investigating:
